1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 cup butter or margarine
2 cups white sugar
2 cups mashed overripe bananas
4 eggs, beaten
s5 dates chopped
1/4 teaspoon of each spice:(Cinnamon,cloves,nutmeg)1teaspoon cardamom
1/2 cup shaved almonds(topping)

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
place the dry ingredients together, into a large bowl. In the mixer , mix together the butter or margarine and sugar until smooth. Stir in the bananas, eggs mix until well blended. Pour the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, and mix until blended. add in dates.mix an additional 2mins.
Pour batter into greased pan.
Bake for 60 to 70 minutes in the preheated oven, until a knife inserted into the crown of the loaf comes out clean. cool completely. follow the caramel sauce recipe. spoon the cooled caramel toffy, you may top with shaved almonds(Optional).
