Date bars (helawiat bi tamir)
2 packets of digestive biscuits( found in British section in local grocery market) or gram crackers
2 cups of chopped pitted dates
1 pack butter melted
1 can table thick cream (aka gameer or ashta )
½ cup sugar
¼ cup water
½ cup slivered almonds.
Combine sugar thick cream and water in a sauce pan cook until golden.
Ina bowl combine ground cookies with butter just like you would a cheese cake crust press in a 20x20 Pyrex dish .
Arrange dates over crust ,pour sauce cover with almonds bake on moderate heat until golden cut into square bars serve with tea or coffee.
