1 cup basmati rice
1 tablespoon butter or oil
1 teaspoon cumin powder or cumin seeds
1 1/2 cups water
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon onion diced
How2:
clean and soak the rice.
In a pot add butter or oil, add onion and cumin saute for a few mins.
Add water. and salt bring to a boil.
Strain rice, add to water bring to an additional boil.
cover cook until you notice the water is drying off. once you see that turn the heat off keep the rice on the stove with its lid on. This will ensure the rice to cook well and puff up as well as allow its liquids to redistribute.
NOTE: I used 1 and 1/2 cups instead of 2 is because the rice was soaked before I cooked it. if you skip out on that you may follow the traditional 2 cups of water/1 cup of rice.
